To comply with guidelines limiting interaction and Return to Learn-UC San Diego policy IFSO has closed it's physical location. We continue to offer all our services remotely.

Advising  will be done remotely, via phone or zoom. Please email   ischolars@ucsd.edu to set up an appointment. Please include a short description about your matter or what you wish to discuss.

Registration/Orientation  for J-1 and H-1B scholars will be done remotely, via zoom. Information and instructions will be emailed to new scholars.

Document processing  will continue as normal, please view   J-1  and   H-1B processing instructions.

Document delivery  - IFSO staff will work directly with departments and scholars to   ship immigration documents to scholars.

Appointments

Advisors are available to meet with faculty and scholars regarding a variety of topics including:

  • Change, extension, amendment of status or transfers to/from UC San Diego
  • Travel
  • 212e waiver
  • Options beyond current status, including permanent residency
  • Insurance, health care access, and J insurance requirements
  • Referrals for UC San Diego or community resources

Appointments are typically 30 minutes. Please email ischolars@ucsd.edu to schedule your telephone or zoom appointment.

Parking

For Faculty & Scholars without a UC San Diego parking pass, daily or hourly parking is available for purchase at pay station permits or meters. 

Below is a select list of parking lots near the International Faculty & Scholars Office; each has different A (Faculty), (Staff/Grad Students) and V (Visitor) availability:

There are currently many construction projects occurring at UC San Diego, many parking lots are closed or being repurposed as outdoor classrooms. Please visit the UC San Diego Parking website and our Transportation and Commuting Alternatives page for additional parking and commuting information.

UC San Diego Shuttles

Faculty and scholars can ride free UC San Diego shuttles that serve campus, medical centers and limited areas of the surrounding community. 
  • During COVID-19, to board UC San Diego shuttles you are required to complete the daily screening and attain a green thumb up. Shuttle driver will ask for the green thumb up confirmation to allow you to board the UC San Diego shuttle.

Safety, Security and Emergency

In the Event of an Emergency (Medical, Crime, or Fire)

Call 911. You can dial 911 from any phone. 911 is the nationwide emergency number. Be ready to report details, beginning with the nature of the emergency and the exact location (address).

In the event of a campus emergency, emergency.ucsd.edu will be updated with details and instructions.  

The UC San Diego Police Department can be reached at (858) 534-HELP (4357). The UC San Diego Police department can also be contacted in case of immigration-related emergencies when the International Faculty & Scholars Office is closed
